Cedillo to Hold Immigrant Affairs Committee Meeting Thursday
To take up Letters of Representation, Civil Rights Ordinance and Justice Fund Update

Los Angeles—Councilmember Cedillo will chair the Immigrant Affairs, Civil Rights and Equity Committee on Thursday, where the committee will take up motions to create a pilot program in three districts with letters of representation for undocumented residents who may come into contact with ICE enforcement, create a civil and human rights ordinance that creates a Civil and Human Rights Commission expanding protections for all Angelenos, and an update from the California Community Foundation on the LA Justice Fund.

Motion (Cedillo - Wesson - Martinez) requesting the City Attorney, with assistance from the City’s Immigrant Affairs and Civil Rights Advocate, Chief Legislative Analyst, and any other City department as necessary, to prepare and present a draft Civil and Human Rights Ordinance that: 1) prohibits discrimination, prejudice, intolerance and bigotry that results in denial of equal treatment of any individual; 2) provides remedies accessible to complainants; and 3) creates the City of Los Angeles Civil and Human Rights Commission and any other supporting unit to investigate and enforce violations of the proposed ordinance.
