Cedillo Declares ‘El Dia de Juan Gabriel’ in Los Angeles
Honors the living legacy of the Late Latino Music Legend Juan Gabriel

Los Angeles—Councilmember Gil Cedillo declared October 27th, 2016, as ‘El Dia de Juan Gabriel’ in the City of Los Angeles. As part of the celebration, La Plaza de Cultura y Artes will honor the singer with a Dia de los Muertos altar and a tribute concert on the 27th at their center.

“It is appropriate that the City of Los Angeles formally recognize the tremendous talent that Juan Gabriel is and the lasting legacy he leaves behind,” stated Councilmember Cedillo. “From here on forward the City of Los Angeles will have a dedicated day to honor the man that transformed the Latino music industry, bringing pride to our people and instilling in them a sense of eternal love/amor eterno. His story of a humble beginning is one that is common in our community. He inspired us through his perseverance, teaching us that anything is possible through hard work and persistence,” added Cedillo.

“Juan Gabriel’s music crossed generations, inspiring our grandparents, parents and their children. He has left a mark in the Latino music industry that will be remembered forever. His music is part of our culture and defines us as Latinos,” mentioned John Echeveste, President and CEO of La Plaza de Cultura y Arte. “We invite everyone to join us tomorrow, on El Dia de Juan Gabriel, for a tribute concert honoring the legend,” added Echeveste.

Councilmember Gil Cedillo currently represents the 1st Council District, which includes all or parts of the neighborhoods of Glassell Park, Cypress Park, Highland Park, Mt. Washington, Solano Canyon, Sycamore Grove, Elysian Park, Echo Park, Westlake, Angelino Heights, Temple Beaudry, Lafayette Park, Chinatown, Forgotten Edge, Lincoln Heights, Montecito Heights, Pico Union, Adams-Normandie, University Park, Mid Cities and Mac Arthur Park.
