Cedillo to Unveil Mosaic Streetscape Project on Figueroa Street
Los Angeles—Councilmember Cedillo will unveil the Highland Park Streetscape Project. This project aims to enhance the pedestrian experience on Figueroa Street between Avenue 50 and Avenue 60 in Historical Highland Park by adding intricately designed street corner mosaics that have been embedded into the existing sidewalk. Measuring four feet by six feet, these colorful mosaics celebrate the rich history of Highland Park while also distinguishing the commercial center, attracting new interest and vitality as people experience beautiful artwork within the public right-of-way.
Utilizing Los Angeles Neighborhood Initiative‘s (LANI) community engagement model, project elements were selected and prioritized through a comprehensive community-driven planning process. Neighborhood stakeholders worked hands-on with Team Cedillo, the neighborhood-selected design firm, the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT), and others to envision the amenities necessary to create a pedestrian-friendly retail corridor.
