Cedillo to Administer LA Pedestrian Safety Pledge
To host 300 youth to take the pledge on the south steps of City Hall
Los Angeles—Councilmember Cedillo will partner with LAPD, LADOT and 300 school children from Council District 1 for a ‘Walk Wise LA Pedestrian Safety Pledge.’ In the City of Los Angeles, school-age children (ages 5-17) account for 19% of all pedestrian-related collisions and 18% of all fatally or severely injured pedestrians. Safe Routes to School, a supporting strategy of Vision Zero, is leading changes to create a safer Los Angeles for children walking and biking to school. The partnership between the City, the Council District Offices, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), and the Los Angeles School Police (LASP), forms the fundamental team to the WALK WISE/DRIVE WISE Traffic Safety Education Pledge.
The WALK WISE/DRIVE WISE Pledge builds awareness about the importance of traffic safety education, including lessons such as “Be Alert, Look, and Listen,” “Be Visible, Day and Night,” and “Drive Safely.” Children will partake in a resource fair and take the official pledge led by the Councilmember.
