Council Approves Lower Speed Limits in City of LA
Three Streets in Council District 1 to Lower Speed Limit from 35 to 30 MPH

Los Angeles—The Los Angeles City Council approved speed limit alterations citywide yesterday, significantly reducing speeds on the City's High Injury Network (HIN) streets. HIN streets are a network of streets that have a higher incidence of severe and fatal collisions. The HIN is comprised of 386 corridors that represent 6% of Los Angeles’ street miles. 65% of all deaths and severe injuries involving people walking and biking occur on these 6% of streets.

Three segments that experienced speed limit reduction from 35 to 30 MPH include:
• Avenue 26, between Pasadena Avenue and San Fernando Road
• Avenue 36, between Eagle Rock Blvd. and Fletcher Drive
• York Blvd., at Eagle Rock Blvd.

“Coupled with street improvements we have made around our district, the reduction of speed limits in some of the most dangerous streets in the city, will help us increase public safety on our streets,” stated Councilmember Gil Cedillo. “The reduction of speed limits is greatly welcomed in Council District 1.
