Cedillo to Cut Ribbon on Hoover Triangle Project
Transforming a transportation hub in the University Park Community

Los Angeles—Councilmember Gil Cedillo will cut ribbon on the Hoover Triangle transportation hub project. The project evolved from residents and businesses advocating for irrigation repairs in January of 2014. They asked for us to make the triangle greener, and provide lighting and benches for transit riders.

The Hoover-23rd-Union Triangle Plaza Project is a collaborative partnership between City family agencies and USC’s Student Design Team. USC’s design team, led by Professor Alison Hirsch prepared preliminary designs based on field research and community outreach. Funding for the project was provided by Councilman Cedillo’s Office in District 1 (CD 1). CD 1 funded the project via Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Funds in the amount of $250,000 and additional funding of $385,000 in discretionary funds, for a total budget of $635,000. The Bureau of Street Services (BSS) as team leaders, prepared the construction documents, and provided the construction services. BSS coordinated the work of both the Bureau of Street Lighting (BSL) and the Department of Transportation (DOT), during both the design and construction phases.

The project elements include historic security/pedestrian lighting at the bus stops and within the plaza, a multi-use performance area, benches, trash receptacles, drought tolerant landscaping, street trees and trees within the plaza, new sidewalks and ADA compliant curb ramps, outdoor tables/seating for both adults and children, bike racks, colored concrete paving.
