Councilmember Cedillo Activates New Traffic Signal in Lincoln Heights

WHAT:            Councilmember Gil Cedillo will gather with school children and community members to activate a newly installed traffic signal at the intersection of Broadway and Hancock in Lincoln Heights.

 

WHO:             Councilmember Gil Cedillo; Mr. Zaki Mustafa, principal transportation engineer, Department of Transportation; Dr. Jose Rodriguez, principal, Gates Elementary School; Captain Martin Baeza, commanding officer, Hollenbeck Division, LAPD.

                                     

 WHEN:           Monday, February 9, 2015

                        10:00 a.m.: Activation Ceremony

 

WHERE:          Intersection of N. Broadway and Hancock Street, Lincoln Heights

                        3105 North Broadway

                        Los Angeles, CA 90031

 

WHY:               The City requested a study that determined that over 5,000 vehicles travel through intersection daily. According to LAPD data there has been 11 injury accidents in the past five years that involved four vehicle vs. vehicle accidents, four vehicle vs. pedestrian accidents, and three vehicle vs. bicyclist accidents.

 

                        Councilmember Cedillo’s office along with the Department of Transportation was able to identify funding to design and install the signal in order to improve public street safety.

 

VISUALS:         Councilmember Cedillo and local school children will walk across street in a safe manner using the new traffic signal light. Councilmember Cedillo and local school children will switch on the new traffic signal light.
