Cedillo Calls for Abolishment of ICE Agency
Los Angeles—Councilmember Cedillo joined immigrant and human rights advocates calling for the abolishment of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) by introducing a resolution supporting the elimination of the agency.
“The City of Los Angeles continues to stand with immigrant families by supporting the abolishment of ICE,” stated Councilmember Gil Cedillo. “The President’s zero-tolerance policy is repressive and inhumane. His focus should be on fixing our broken immigration system, instead of penalizing refugees seeking asylum. It is un-American to shut our doors on those seeking refuge in the United States. On the eve of our Independence Day, I call for the elimination of ICE, the implementation of a humane immigration program and a stop to the separation of families as a deterrent to entry into our country,” added Councilmember Cedillo, Chair of the Immigrant Affairs, Civil Rights, and Equity Committee.
Councilmember Gil Cedillo currently represents the 1st Council District, which includes all or parts of the neighborhoods of Glassell Park, Cypress Park, Highland Park, Mt. Washington, Solano Canyon, Sycamore Grove, Elysian Park, Echo Park, Westlake, Angelino Heights, Temple Beaudry, Lafayette Park, Chinatown, Forgotten Edge, Lincoln Heights, Montecito Heights, Pico Union, Adams-Normandie, University Park, Mid Cities and Mac Arthur Park.
