Cedillo Breaks Ground on MacArthur Park Improvements

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 23, 2015

WHAT: Ground Breaking for MacArthur Park Gateway & Lake Improvements

WHO: Councilmember Gil Cedillo, Council District 1; Department of Recreation and Parks; Bureau of Engineering; Bureau of Sanitation

WHEN: Thursday, September 24th, 2015 at 10:00 a.m.

WHERE: MacArthur Park, 7th and Alvarado entrance, Los Angeles, CA 90057

WHY: The lake project will (1) improve the water quality of the lake; (2) disconnect the park’s irrigation system from fresh (drinking) water and replace it with treated water fed by the lake’s overflow line; (3) reduce the lake’s fresh water usage by 2.8 million gallons per year or about 11% of the average annual total freshwater use in the park; (4) eliminate discharge into the City’s storm drain system; and (5) reduce the pollutant loading from the lake into the Ballona Creek.
