PRESS RELEASE
City Council Approves Border Wall Disclosure Motion
Instruct City Attorney to draft ordinance for contractor wall involvement disclosure

Los Angeles—In a 13-0 vote, the Los Angeles City Council approved a motion by Councilmember Gil Cedillo today, to let taxpayers know who they are doing business with. The measure aims to provide transparency in contracting, asking that city contractors disclose if they have any bids associated with building a proposed border wall between Mexico and the United States of America.

“There are certain values that we uphold as sacred to us as a City, one of them is treating every resident with the dignity and respect that they deserve. Anyone wishing to do business with the City, should share in our values. Doing business with the City is not a right it’s a privilege,” stated Councilmember Cedillo.

“This motion makes it mandatory for contractors who seek to do business with the City of Los Angeles, to disclose if they have any contracts for design, construction, supply, procurement or other development related services regarding building any proposed border wall between Mexico and the United States of America. Angelinos deserve to know who they are doing business with. We have made it very clear that this City does not support the building of this wall. We are more interested in building bridges,” added Cedillo.

The City Attorney will draft and introduce an ordinance, which will head through the committee process before coming to the full City Council for approval. It is yet to be determined how having a contract with the border wall will impact a contractors chances of securing or keeping a contract with the City.

Councilmember Gil Cedillo currently represents the 1st Council District, which includes all or parts of the neighborhoods of Glassell Park, Cypress Park, Highland Park, Mt. Washington, Solano Canyon, Sycamore Grove, Elysian Park, Echo Park, Westlake, Angelino Heights, Temple Beaudry, Lafayette Park, Chinatown, Forgotten Edge, Lincoln Heights, Montecito Heights, Pico Union, Adams-Normandie, University Park, Mid Cities and Mac Arthur Park.
