Council Approves Arts Development Fee to Benefit CD1

Los Angeles—The Los Angeles City Council approved the 2017-2018 Arts Development Fund (ADF), which will allocate a total of $149,327.49 to Council District 1 arts and culture projects. Total ADF allocations can be found here: http://clkrep.lacity.org/onlinedocs/2013/13-0933_misc_11-21-2017.pdf.

The owner of a development project for a commercial or industrial building for which the total value of all construction or work for which the permit is issued is $500,000 or more, is required to pay an arts fee. The amount of the fee is calculated by the Department of Building & Safety using the following formulas:
• Office or research and development. For an office or research and development building, the arts fee shall be $1.57 per square foot.
• Retail. All retail establishments shall pay an arts fee of $1.31 per square foot.
• Manufacturing. For a manufacturing building, the arts fee shall be $0.51 per square foot.
• Warehouse. For a warehouse building, the arts fee shall be $0.39 per square foot
• Hotel. For a hotel building, the arts fee shall be $0.52 per square foot.

“The Arts Development Fee provides our communities with a steady funding stream to fulfil projects that otherwise would remain unfunded,” stated Councilmember Gil Cedillo. “Council District 1 has a series of projects and events that depend on this funding source. We are delighted that the City has made this commitment to continue bringing our communities through arts and culture,” added Cedillo.

Councilmember Gil Cedillo currently represents the 1st Council District, which includes all or parts of the neighborhoods of Glassell Park, Cypress Park, Highland Park, Mt. Washington, Solano Canyon, Sycamore Grove, Elysian Park, Echo Park, Westlake, Angelino Heights, Temple Beaudry, Lafayette Park, Chinatown, Forgotten Edge, Lincoln Heights, Montecito Heights, Pico Union, Adams-Normandie, University Park, Mid Cities and Mac Arthur Park.
